Graphic Design Summer Intern

Are We Right for You?

Are you a meticulous self-starter with critical thinking skills? Do you want firsthand experience in the creative process? How about on-the-job experience producing content for social media, websites, and print or digital ads? If you answered “yes” to the questions above, please read on.

How much experience do you need?

  • This position is open to Juniors or Seniors at an accredited university who are pursuing a degree in or related to graphic design, art, marketing, or advertising.
  • You must have a working knowledge of the necessary applications for creating graphics and/or social content, Experience with both static and video – combined with a drive to learn new things – will help you stand out.
  • We want someone who is motivated to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

Our intern will collaborate directly with our creative team.

If you want to produce great content, we can show you how. You would have the chance to collaborate with our award-winning team in many capacities including:

  • Creating graphics for social media, websites, magazines, and more
  • Selecting colors, fonts, images, and layout
  • Assisting in presentation creation and stand-alone administrative tasks for our creative team
  • Implementing feedback and changes when appropriate
  • Interacting with a team of diverse, creative people – some introverts, some extraverts
  • Getting to know a variety of business categories
  • Becoming an integral part of a true work family culture

The Ideal Intern:

  • Can take directions.
  • Has excellent problem-solving skills
  • Is self-motivated to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Thrives in a constantly changing, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Has strong computer skills
  • Has a strong understanding of design principles; can bring together lines, colors, shapes, space, textures, typography, scale, dominance, and emphasis to create visually appealing and well-structured designs
  • Is extremely creative and innovative.
  • Has experience in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, or similar.
  • Has experience in motion graphics (this is a huge plus)
  • Has a strong understanding of social media content for various platforms
  • Is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing or design-related field.

Schedule/Office Hours/Work Location

We recognize that your education comes first. ADsmith provides a flexible work environment and will work with the new hire to determine their part-time work schedule, up to 20 hours per week. Although hours may vary according to workload, the selected Intern’s hours will all between Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • This internship is for the Summer of 2025, with the potential to extend throughout the fall semester.
  • We are flexible with class schedules.
  • The selected Intern will work in-person at the ADsmith office in Springfield, MO.
  • No travel is required.

Compensation

This is a paid internship with pay starting at $17 per hour. If you are interested in utilizing this internship to fulfill class requirements, we are happy to provide any documentation needed.

Graphic Designer / Content Developer

Are We Right for You?

Have you helped deliver creative marketing projects to successful completion under tight deadlines? Do you have a passion for learning and staying ahead of the curve regarding new digital and marketing design trends?

The Graphic Designer/Content Developer is responsible for creating exceptional digital and video products that communicate effectively and produce results for ADsmith and our clients.  The Designer/Content Developer will collaborate with our seasoned Graphic Designers and Studio Manager. This position requires supporting our team in generating content. Examples of creative content include digital ads, social media, website design, and general design projects like print materials and video editing. There will also be opportunities to support our Studio Manager at on-location video/photo shoots.

  • Collaboratively or solely develop unique creative concepts
  • Creating quality, commercially viable designs and video work in a range of budgets
  • Experimenting with generating social content tailored to various client categories and social platforms
  • Developing full campaigns supporting digital and traditional media (TV, billboards, etc.)
  • Website design

How much experience do you need?

  • This position is open to new creative individuals just starting out, or those with a few years of experience.
  • College graduates are preferred; however, we will be considering applicants primarily on their portfolios. Please have examples of both graphic design and video work to share with us.
  • You must have a basic understanding of working with all the necessary software for design and video. This coupled with a fearless drive to learn new things will make you stand out.
  • The ADsmith creative team will help you grow, but you must be self-motivated to learn fast.

What we are looking for:

  • Strong understanding of design principles; can bring together lines, colors, shapes, spaces, textures, typography, scale, dominance, and emphasis to create visually appealing and well-structured designs.
  • Is both creative and innovative.
  • Understands the importance of building or maintaining brand identity and integrity.
  • Has a strong understanding of social media content for various platforms.
  • Solid skills in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience in Adobe After Effects or similar is a plus, as is experience in Figma.
  • Experience in posting social content would be a plus.
  • The ability to write some social/digital content would be a plus but is not required.
  • Video Skills – Above all, the Video Editor must have excellent editing skills and be experienced – or able to quickly learn and master – Photoshop, Illustrator, MS Word, Excel, Adobe Premiere, Audition and After Effects
  • An understanding of digital mediums and willingness to learn new platforms is a must.
  • Pays attention to details.
  • Willingness to receive feedback; wants to learn new skills.
  • Is trustworthy with confidential client information.
  • Functions and thrives in a challenging environment.
  • Can work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Works well with a diverse team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to read, interpret documents, write, and communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to reach, stand, stoop, and lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to type on a computer keyboard and operate office equipment, including telephone.

Office Hours: 

M-F 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (may office from home up to 3 days per week after initial onboarding period and approval to move to WFH status. Typically takes between 4 to 12 months)

Compensation & Benefits:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $35,000 to $45,000 per year, pending experience.
